For a lively discussion of how cool sedan Model S, a few faded very first model of an American company – the more that a couple of years ago, it was removed from production. But as it turned out, the history of electric sports car is not finished yet.
Two-seater Tesla Roadster was first shown to the public in 2006, and its production began two years later. On different versions of the model developed electric motors from 250 to 290 hp, allowing the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds. At the same time Roadster is the first production car that can travel more than 320 miles on a single charge (501 km record became – the result was shown during a specially organized events in Australia). Until 2012, it was released around 2500 cars, and they attracted the attention of not only customers – for example, it was the first electric Roadster, which has been developed for tuning package in the famous studio Brabus.
And CEO Elon Musk via social network Twitter announced that in August the world will present new Roadster with an index of 3.0. Top manager did not tell how powerful is the engine, with a major focus “efficiency” of the car – more capacious battery (where you can stock up on third more energy), reduced from 0.36 to 0.31 coefficient of drag, new wheel bearings and tires with reduced rolling resistance. All this should result from 400 miles (more than 640 km) runs on one filling.
But Musk immediately clarified that it is not about the construction of new machines, and the possibility to upgrade sports cars already issued by replacing the relevant parts. Recall that constructively Roadster was a thoroughly modified Lotus Elise – and body assembly (with suspension and brakes) were not going in the US and shipped to the British factory Lotus
